In Needle felting, a little fiber can go a long way! Bring your needle felted landscape, or the hair or garment on your next three dimensional character to the next level of gorgeous expression with the skills gleaned in this workshop! From Rabbit to Mill: Sorting & Grading Angora Wool for Market or Mill Runs
with
Master the techniques that elevate Angora wool from backyard harvest to a premium fiber product.
Angora rabbit wool is one of the most luxurious fibers in the world, but its value depends entirely on how it is harvested, sorted, and prepared. In this hands-on workshop, Tammy will teach participants how to properly evaluate, sort, grade, and safely store Angora wool, whether selling fiber to handspinners or preparing fleeces for commercial yarn mill runs.
Participants will learn how to identify prime spinning fiber, understand staple length and strength, and properly separate wool into usable grades such as prime, seconds, and thirds. Tammy will demonstrate practical sorting techniques and discuss how fiber quality directly affects yarn outcomes. She will also share tips for avoiding common mistakes that reduce wool value and make fiber unsuitable for mill processing.
As a bonus, Tammy will introduce opportunities for breeders to become wool suppliers for Sinfully Soft mill runs, where carefully prepared Angora fiber is transformed into her luxurious Sinfully Soft's yarn.
By mastering Tammy's professional sorting and grading techniques, participants will gain the confidence to present their Angora wool as a premium fiber product. Proper preparation and grading are what separate casual hobby fiber from expertly prepared luxury wool. This knowledge allows breeders to elevate their fiber, showcase it professionally, and join the ranks of Angora producers who are raising the standard for top-quality Angora wool.

The Beauty of What Remains: From Wool Waste to Fiber Art
with
In this workshop, students will explore how discarded fibers and threads can become something unexpectedly beautiful using a simple variation on the historic Japanese technique of Temari. Students will embellish a 100% wool ball with an assortment of weaving thrums, pearl and matte cotton embroidery threads, and crewel yarns. Through the natural gift of felting inherent to wool fiber, and simple needlework techniques, these once-discarded (or currently piling-up in the corner of your studio) fibers and threads become vibrant, personal expressions in surface design that belie their humble zero waste beginning to create a richly textured decorative object made almost entirely from reclaimed materials. We’ll explore how to source scrap and shape your own wool forms to create large, smooth 2 - 4" diameter round felt balls or wool river stones. There will be plenty of on-site step by step examples and plenty of time for questions on effective ways to scale, share stitching techniques and for taking notes and photographs. Students will leave with a finished, three dimensional decorative fiber piece and another blank to take home, plus clear, practical knowledge supported by a link to an illustrated, pdf to continue the process in your own studio.

This class is designed to teach the basics of Kumihimo including the tools, yarn selection, various braiding sequences, and ideas for the uses of the finished braids. You will leave the class with a completed Kumihimo braided key chain or wrist distaff, enough materials to complete a second key ring, wrist distaff, or bracelet on your own, and the ability to design your own Kumihimo patterns for future projects.

The ABC's of Drop Spindling (top whorl, bottom whorl, and Turkish styles)
with
If you have always been intrigued by spinners demonstrating their craft, have been curious about yarn construction, and/or have always wanted to learn to spin yourself, then this class is for you. We will begin with some background knowledge on drop spindles (history, types, anatomy, weights and mechanics, and supplemental tools). Then we will get down to business learning the steps to spinning a single on a spindle (choosing a spindle and fiber, starting with and without a leader thread, drafting techniques, winding on and building a secure cop). After spinning for a while and fine tuning our technique we will explore winding off options, plying options, and how to finish your yarn. And yes, you will go home a spinner!
Materials provided
Handout and fiber to spin
Please bring
A drop spindle (top whorl, bottom whorl, or Turkish spindle). Instructor will have some for use in class if you don't own one of your own.

Bounce, Roll, Felt a Bowl
with
Bounce your project into existence in this high-energy, tactile workshop! In this session, we move beyond traditional flat felt to explore the world of seamless 3D wet felting. Using an inflatable ball as our "resist," we will transform soft wool roving into a beautiful, structural decorative bowl. This is a fun, physical experience where movement is the key ingredient. You will learn how to layer fibers, use a kinetic rolling technique to interlock the wool, and master the "fulling" process through bouncing to create a sturdy, one-of-a-kind piece of fiber art.
What You Will Learn: 3D Resist Basics: Understanding how to build wool over a three-dimensional form. The Layering Technique: Proper fiber placement to ensure a strong, even structure. Kinetic Fulling: Using rolling and bouncing movements to shrink and harden the felt. Shaping & Finishing: How to remove your resist and sculpt your damp bowl into its final, artistic form. All materials are provided. You will leave the class with a finished bowl and the confidence to create your own 3D felted structures at home.

Braided-In Multi-strand Rugs
with
This workshop will introduce the technique of making a "braided-in" Rug with 4 or more strands. The beauty of this rug making technique is that the rug is joined as you go (instead of making a braid and then joining it). This rug making technique is especially good for using recycled t-shirts, and does not require any special tools to create. During the class, you will be able to start and potentially finish (depending on the size you want) a rug that is especially useful for bathroom or kitchen use. The resulting look is similar to a braided rug, however the making of this rug is completely different.
Materials provided

Please bring
Scissors, 2 or more old t-shirts of contrasting colors

In this session you will learn how to judge yarn for warp, how to calculate a warp, and how to put a warp onto the Rigid Heddle loom using efficient and time-tested techniques. This class is loaded with hints, shortcuts, and tips to help make the warping process on your rigid heddle loom seem like magic and your projects successful. You will leave class with a warped rigid heddle loom, the beginning of a woven scarf, and weft yarn to complete the scarf on your own.
